Poet Celebrates the Release of a New Poetry Collection
With a reading at St. John’s College
(SANTA FE, NM) St. John’s tutor, Jorge Aigla, celebrates the release of his 5th collection of poetry First Lie/ Primera Mentira, with a reading on Saturday, February 2 at 4:00 p.m. in the Junior Common Room on the St. John’s Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
St. John’s Tutor Emeritus, Charles Fasanaro writes in his foreword to the book, “This is a unique, rewarding and beautiful work. An outstanding illustration of poetry as a liberal art – an art that in Aigla’s hands performs a central task of all poetry, to define what it means to be free…placing himself, his poetry, and us at the very center of human experience.”
First Lie/ Primera Mentira, is a book of poetry written in English and Spanish, where the poems address personal experience, but are deeply filled with classical references. Fasanaro explains that the poems are “an intelligent and creative examination not only of freedom, but simultaneously an exercise on how memory and the process of poetry itself can lead one toward this freedom….”
