If you come to visit, the college will put you up for the night,
let you sit in on classes, and arrange for you to talk with either a member
of the faculty or someone from the admissions office.
This is the way to find out about St. John’s. If at all possible, go visit.
When I visited, I was fairly bowled over. I went from interested in St. John’s to

I had visited a bunch of other schools, and St. John’s was the only place that
did not seem like high school continued. It was the only place where students really
seemed to take an active role in their classes. I passed tutors and students
in passionate conversation just outside the dining hall—wherever they happened
